Why I Hate Mock Golf Shirts
I hate mock golf shirts. I hate to see them in stores. I hate to see them on television. I hate to see them at the golf course. In fact, whenever I see someone in a mock golf shirt, it is all I can do to hold myself back from marching to the nearest golf store (or pro shop) and buying them a normal golf shirt to wear. Why do I hate mock golf shirts so much? Read on to find out.
First, I’m not a fan of these kinds of golf shirts because I just think they look bad. I mean, whoever came up with the idea of removing the collar from a golf shirt and replacing it with a band of cloth must have been on some serious drugs at the time. I mean, they just don’t look that good. Most golfers are not Tiger Woods or Camillo Villegas. They don’t have the body to pull off a shirt like that (which tends to fit tighter than a traditional golf shirt). So why do it? The type of guys that wear mock golf shirts also have probably seriously considered wearing a sleeveless golf shirt.
Second, they aren’t that comfortable. For me, the feeling of being able to open the collar on a regular golf shirt, like an Adidas golf shirt, a Nike golf shirt, or a Puma golf shirt, is amazing. But with these kind of shirts, your stuck. No matter how hot it gets, you are constantly going to have this thing hugging your neck. It’s about the most uncomfortable thing in the world in my eyes (there is a reason turtlenecks haven’t taken off, by the way).
Finally, these types of golf shirts, though they may look well with plaid golf pants, just aren’t as fancy as you need to be on the golf course. I mean, let’s admit it, these are just t-shirts with an extra band of fabric up top for the most part. Who would want to sport some sweet plaid golf pants with a t-shirt out on the course? Not me.
I mean, if you’re going to do that you might as well get some straw golf hats and brown golf shoes!
